Share the views of rugged mountains and deep gorges with your guide from the safety of old mining trails and learn about the early scheelite history days that were a crucial component in establishing Glenorchy’s heritage.

Take a heli hike back into Glenorchy historic past and walk amongst history.

A 20-minute scenic heli ride towards the amazing Mt Earnslaw hanging glacier will have you landed at 1328m asl. amongst the Richardson Mountains steeped in scheelite mining history.

The downhill with your guide takes you along mining tracks all the while absorbed in the historic fabric of mining of the last century.

Along the walk, soak in the changing mountains vista while viewing miner’s huts, work sites, "flying fox" cable structure and ore treatment battery.

This walk is predominantly in open country revealing lake and mountainous views with a Wow factor.

Duration: Heli hike - 3-4 hrs; Loop hike - 6 - 8 hrs. October to May, snow shoeing in winter months upon request and subject to weather

Grade: Moderate. Walking on well-formed old mining road and tracks
